Will BLACKPINK be able to surpass 2NE1?
YG Entertainment's new girl group Blackpink, comprised of Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa is about to make an official debut. The 4-member girl group will release its debut album in late July. You know, Blackpink is YG's first new girl group since 2NE1 debuted 2009, and enormous interest is currently showering the girl group.
If I throw the above question, some of you might say I'm crazy. Yeah, I know what you're talking about. 2NE1 is the top class kpop girl group and has electrified so many fans by showing their unique performance. And each 2NE1 member is very talented and attractive. It will be never easy for Blackpink to surpass 2NE1.
But in reality, Blackpink has to do it even if it's very hard. It has been 7 years since 2NE1 debuted, and YG needs its new star. Blackpink is the future of YG, and that's why the kpop agency is putting everything into the girl group's debut project. You know, SM Entertainment, the rival company of YG, has popular girl groups such as f(x) and Red Velvet apart from Girls' Generation who debuted in 2007 and has been active as a No.1 kpop girl group. YG has a long way to go, and the first thing the agency has to do is to make Blackpink a top class kpop girl group like 2NE1.
In the world of kpop these days, girl groups who have innocent and lovely charm are catching great popularity. Yeah, just like TWICE and GFRIEND. The two teams are now leading kpop industry.
Then, what does this mean to Blackpink? It means Blackpink has to surpass them before challenging 2NE1. Blackpink is a hip hop girl group and its music is totally different from that of innocent and lovely girl groups such as TWICE and GFRIEND. So the success of Blackpink depends on whether the girl group can differentiate itself from the other kpop girl groups. Well, Blackpink has a chance of success. 2NE1 has already proven that kpop girl group who does hip hop music can also achieve a great success.
So, let's take a poll. Do you think YG's BLACKPINK will be able to surpass JYP's TWICE?
