IU, who debuted in 2008, is considered as one of the most popular female kpop stars. She started her career by releasing cute and lovely songs like 'Boo' and 'Marshmallow', and became a top star with a big hit of her song 'Good day' in 2010. After then, no one could stop her. With the consecutive hits of 'You and I' and 'The red shoes', she was widely loved by people as the nation's little sister.
Everybody in the world of kpop says the 22-year old singer has already climbed to the top as a singer. She was featured in Seo Taiji's song 'Sogyeokdong' released in 2014, while it is very exceptional that the legendary male singer song writer collaborates with other singer through his album.
By the way, as you know, IU has been active as an actress too. What do you think is show business people's cool-headed assessment of "actress" IU?
When she debuted as an actress by appearing on 'Dream High' in 2011, she showed better performance than expected and received attention as a promising young actress. After then, she appeared on 'The best Yi Sunshin' and 'Pretty boy' as the lead role, while she was also cast in upcoming new drama 'Producer'.
Well, her performance as an actress was not so bad, but it's true that "actress" IU couldn't have as great impact as "singer" IU on the scene.
Here's drama producer's cool-headed assessment of "actress" IU.
"She is certainly better than other young actresses in their early 20s. And she has the potential to become great actress. However, she has a long way to go. As a singer, yes, she has achieved a dominant position. But as an actress, she's still on the stage of growth."
Let's compare IU with other young actresses. Comparable actresses are Park Shin Hye and Go Ah Sung. Park Shin Hye, who took the leading roles of many dramas such as 'The Heirs' and 'Pinocchio', is considered as showing better presence than IU. And Go Ah Sung? Her acting is superb. This doesn't mean that IU is a terrible actress. I just want to say that "actress" IU has to raise herself to a higher level if she wants to be as successful as "singer" IU. Actually, in Korea, IU is now regarded as having better acting ability than Miss A's Suzy and Girls' Generation's Yoona.
Anyway, IU has kicked off her activity for 2015 by attending a script reading for her upcoming drama 'Producer'. I'm sure that many of you are looking forward to the drama and it is expected that she is going to present herself better through the drama.
As you know, top Korean actors like Cha Tae Hyun, Gong Hyo Jin and Kim Soo Hyun will also appear on the drama, and it will certainly help IU to take the pressure off. The drama will be an important turning point in her life as an actress.
