Some of them hold showcase events, while others hold press conferences. And some singers hold press preview events of their new albums too. Why do you think k-pop singers' comeback events are slightly different from one another then? Well, there's a story behind it.
SM: Press Preview
SM artists usually hold press preview events when they come back. (They also hold showcase events for their fans, but for reporters, they hold press preview events) There is a notable difference between press preview events and the other comeback events. At press preview events, k-pop singers play each track of their new albums and talk about the songs, which means they spend most of time talking about their music, not about their private lives. Actually, k-pop singers who are regarded as great musicians usually hold press preview events when they release their new albums. Shin Seunghoon, Yoo Heeyeol and Zico are good examples. They produce their albums by themselves, and they want to talk more about their "babies". Then why do you think SM artists hold press preview events when they come back? By holding their press preview events, SM wants to highlight the fact that they're not just idols but great musicians.
YG: Press Conference
YG artists usually hold press conferences when they come back. At press conferences, k-pop singers don't sing and don't play their new albums either. Instead, they just have a Q and A session. Reporters ask questions to them, and they answer to the questions. Actually, in Korea, only super stars hold press conferences when they release their new albums. Seo Taiji, Cho Yongpil and PSY are good examples. Then why do you think YG artists hold press conferences when they come back? By holding their press conferences, YG wants to highlight the fact that they're not like the other idols and they're higher than them.
JYP: Showcase
JYP artists usually hold showcase events when they come back. At showcase events, k-pop singer perform their new songs for the first time. And they have a short Q and A session too. There is a notable difference between showcase events and the other comeback events. After finishing showcase events for reporters, k-pop singers invite their fans and hold separate showcase events again, which means they can satisfy both reporters and fans. Holding showcase events is a very traditional way of making a comeback for k-pop singers, and JYP is following this tradition.
