Well, kpop fans' concern became a reality. 2NE1's Minzy decided to leave her team, and YG Entertainment made an official announcement about it on April 5. Minzy even didn't renew her contract with YG.
You know, I lately posted an article about the r
easons why 2NE1's comeback is being delayed, and I presented 3 reasons - CL didn't debut in US yet, Criticism against Park Bom, and Yang Hyun Suk is focusing on Winner and iKON. Actually, Minzy's breakaway from 2NE1 is closely linked to these reasons.
One of the noteworthy features of YG is that the agency never rushes when its artists are preparing for their comeback. Yang Hyun Suk strives perfection in music, and YG artists can't release new album without his OK sign. Most of the YG artists like Yang Hyun Suk's this kind of way of doing business. A good example is Big Bang. The artistic group usually have enough time to prepare for its new album,, and that's why the group can always release high quality albums. Yang Hyun Suk and Big Bang are really well-suited to each other.
However, waiting for comeback for more than 2 years were too long for Minzy. Minzy has not been engaged in any entertainment activities since 2NE1 released "Crush" in February 2014. It depends on who it is, but for Minzy, it was very frustrating to just waste time doing nothing. You know, 2NE1's comeback has been delayed again and again for various reasons that I mentioned before(mainly because of Park Bom's drug scandal), while Minzy couldn't even have a chance to release her solo album. In this situation, Minzy felt abandoned and suffered from anxiety about her future. That's why Minzy decided to leave YG. YG tried to change her mind but couldn't. It's notable that YG showed deep affection towards Minzy through its official announcement, but it's too late. Yang Hyun Suk should have done something for Minzy when she was having a difficult time.
