The other day, I posted an
article about the evolution of Kpop idol groups. I commented "Kpop female idols are taking off sexy concepts because some fans are tired of the Kpop idols' sexy performance."
Well, however, what goes around comes around, and like I said "The age of sexy girl groups would come here again soon or later" on the article, it is the season for "Sexy" again.

◆Sexy Girl Groups Take the Lead in Kpop Industry
Early in 2014, Girl's Day made a comeback with its new song 'Something'. The members are poured into the skimpy Chinese dress, and showed off their sexy charms. The song is reminiscent of Uhm Jung Hwa's 'Invitation'(1998) or Park Ji Yoon's 'Coming-of-Age Ceremony'(2000), but is more fascinating. Gaining great popularity from people, the group topped several music chart shows.
Apart from Girl's Day, prominent Kpop girl groups such as Dal Shabet, AOA and Rainbow Blaxx showed sexy peformance one after the other. With their costumes and choreography, the groups put emphasis on their sexy charms. Through the music videos below, see how sexy they are.
◆What's the Reason?
Then, why are all the girl groups hooked on the sexy concepts? The official from one Kpop agency told me this way.
"Actually, girl groups can be divided into two classes. Sexy one or cute one. At the moment, the agencies prefer the former because sexy girl groups are more likely to stand out among the other groups."
Yeah, it is the means of existence. There are dozens of nameless and faceless Kpop idol groups.
Besides, even though girl groups make a debut with cute and pure concept, most of them gradually transform into sexy groups. Pop singers need to change their images from time to time, but there are only two options for girl groups(sexy or cute) and they have no choice but to show sexy performance.
◆Long-Standing Debate on Sexy Groups
In Korea, a debate continues over girl groups' sexy concepts. Some insist that their stage act is a little too raunchy for television, and is especially unsuitable for teenagers.
And others say that Kpop is by and by conforming to a single standard because of girl groups' endless competition for seductive undressing. There also are concerns that Kpop might lose industrial competitiveness in the world music market.
Well, what do you think? It is too much? Or you just like it?
