Sad news for STAR1. On May 23, SISTAR announced that they decided to disband the team. Not only the girl group's fans but also people in the k-pop industry were surprised by the news because the 8th-year girl group has been enjoying great popularity in the world of k-pop and there has never been a hint of the 4 members' breakup.
Then, why do you think SISTAR decided to disband the team even though the team is stil considered as one of the most popular k-pop girl groups? Well, let's see why k-pop idols leave their groups first. There are 7 reasons.
1. Financial Difficulty of Their Companies
It costs a fabulous sum of money for k-pop agencies to produce idol groups. The agencies usually invest hundreds of millions of won into training idols and have to retrieve the investment after their idols' debut. However, only a few of the idols win success and make actual profits. Many of idols suffer from the hardships of life because they do not have steady income. If an idol group can't make profits for years and its agency can't retrieve its investment, the group has to be disbanded, of course. So, before their groups are disbanded, some of the idols make their minds to leave the groups.
2. Over-Bearing Intervention of Their Parents
Most of k-pop idols are in their late teens or early 20s, which means they're not old enough and still need to be looked after by their parents. However, some of idols' parents are too enthusiastic about their sons and daughters' careers. And their over-bearing intervention sometimes create conflicts between k-pop agencies and idol singers. Parents always expect better of their children, right? Enthusiastic parents ask k-pop agencies for too much, while some of them even make their sons and daughters leave idol groups.
3. Anxiety About the Future
Every idol singer feels anxiety about the future because they can't be active as idol singers for all of their lives. They have to retire someday. So, some of idols who are unsure about their future determine to quit their singing careers and try to find a new route. Some start their acting careers, while others strive to concentrate on their studies or start their own business.
4. Eager for Success
One of k-pop idols' difficulties is that they have to share their incomes with their agencies and team mates, while many of idols complain that their incomes are very low for their work hours. In this situation, idols are tempted to leave their groups and act alone. And there are also some astute businessmen who put the comether on the idols to leave their groups and agencies. The businessmen want to turn the idols to profit, but as far as I know, there has been no idols who achieved a success after leaving their groups in this way.
5. Discord Among Members
K-pop idol group members eat, sleep, and sing together all day long. However, they're ordinary people too, and there should be a discord among the members. I can speak with confidence that all the k-pop idol groups experience internal conflicts. Some of them can overcome it, but others can't. And yeah, a discord among idol group members sometimes make one of them leave his group.
6. Love and Marriage
K-pop idols are young boys and girls, and they dream of romance too. They enjoy their dates secretly, while some of them pour everything they have into their love. Wonder Girls' Sunye is the typical example. After her marriage, she has been passive about her activity as a singer and finally left her group. Love sometimes conquers all.
7. A Raw Deal
People envy k-pop idols who are loved by so many fans. However, some of the idols are forced to work around the clock, while they make very little money. There are some k-pop agencies which lives off the backs of their idols. So, if the situation become unbearable, some idols make a decision to leave their groups and agencies because they don’t have any choice.
Among these, which one do you think applies to SISTAR's situation. First, there was no discord among the SISTAR members. They're getting along well with each other. Second, Starship, home to the girl group, treated the members with consideration. SISTAR has earned a lot of money for the agency, and the members received fair treatment. Third, SISTAR doesn't have a super star member like Suzy of Miss A, which means they didn't decide to disband the team because they wanted to achieve bigger success.
So, the SISTAR members decided to disband the team due to their anxiety about the future. Like I said above, every idol singer feels anxiety about the future because they can't be active as idol singers for all of their lives. They have to retire someday. So, some of idols who are unsure about their future determine to quit their singing careers and try to find a new route.
You might say they still can do their individual activities without disbanding their team, but it's a different story because the prerequisite is SISTAR should maintain its great popularity for a long time. However, unfortunately, there are so many young girl groups in the k-pop world, and it's true the young girl groups such as TWICE, BLACKPINK and Red Velvet have already become more popular than SISTAR among young k-pop fans.
In this situation, SISTAR's 7-year contract with Starship has expired, and the members decided to leave the group to make a fresh start. In a way, they're very smart because they made a quick decision. Actually, the fact that the 4 members have actively done their individual activities means they've been preparing to stand alone. For them, it wasn't a sudden decision to disband the girl group. So, it seems like Hyolyn and Soyou will be active as solo singers, while Bora and Dasom will take a fresh start as actresses.
Good luck to all of them.

Who's your favorite Korean actress? Well, here are 3 representative hallyu actresses, Jun Jihyun, Park Shinhye, and Min Hyorin. Yeah, Jun Jihyun and Park Shinhye are recognized hallyu stars, while some of you might disagree with including Min Hyorin in the 3 representative hallyu actresses. But, as you know, she is Big Bang Taeyang's girl and I think many people are interested in her. Anyway, I've interviewed all of them and I'd like to talk about the 3 actresses' real personality. Jun Jihyun is beautiful. Everyone who sees her in person says she's a goddess. She has small face and long legs. And she has an elegant atmosphere. I don't know if it was intended, but she was absolutely different from ordinary people when she talked and acted. Yeah, she talks and acts like a real celebrity. As she shows her pride and elegance when she is interviewed, some say they feel distance from her. However, it doesn't mean she is pretentious. When she is with the ...
No doubt, GD is the most influential star in the k-pop world. I’ve had an interview with him three times till now, and what I felt about him is that he is a little bit shy of strangers. At first, I was surprised at it because you know, he’s always very charismatic and energetic on the stage and he never looks like the one who is very shy. Even though he is shy of strangers and doesn’t talk much, it doesn’t mean he is just an introvert person. When it comes to his career, he is full of confidence. He has much pride in himself and has a very clear view on his career. Add to this, he has qualities of a leader and is the one who leads the conversation when the 5 BIGBANG members are interviewed by the press. Oh, and one more thing. It seems like he exactly knows how to captivate ladies because many of female k-pop journalists who had an interview with him fell in love with him. When he talks to somebody, he makes eye contact with the person and he sometimes puts on a very attract...
Q. You made a comeback with your new album "Following". How do you feel? Hyuna: I've been preparing for the album since I released Triple H's album last April. I've been looking forward to making a comeback, and I'll show powerful and energetic performance on stage. Q. It's notable that you took part in writing your new songs. What did you care about the most when you were working on the songs? Hyuna: Whenever I work on my new album, I try to get a variety of opinions. My new album was a challenge for me, but I wanted to highlight natural side of myself through the album. Q. So, is that why you took your jacket photos without makeup? Hyuna: As a 26 year old woman, I wanted to photograph natural look of myself. I wore no makeup at all, and that's why you can see my facial blemishes and pores in the photos. It was a real challenge for me, but I wanted to give a special present to my fans who have been supporting me for a long time. Q....
2PM has successfully finished its exclusive concert. The 10th-year boy group held "2PM CONCERT 6Nights" at the Korea University Hwajeong Gymnasium in Seoul from June 2-11. 2PM gave a total of 6 shows, while the shows drew audiences totaling 30,000 people. The 6 members absolutely electrified their fans by showing passionate and energetic live performance. Especially, it seemed they tried to put everything they have into their last show because it was their last concert before their enlistment. At the end of the concert, the members burst into tears, while many fans chanted the their name for about 15 minutes. Taecyeon It feels strange because I'm not sure when I will be able to sing as a member of 2PM again. It certainly will be a precious memory for me to be together with the other members. Please wait for us till we'll be back as a 6-member group. JUN.K It feels really strange because we can't perform as a 6-member group for quite some t...
"Do k-pop idols really sing live? It's not an easy question to answer because the answer to the question could be both yes and no. Well, I want to talk about details about k-pop idols' live performance on the stage. Have you heard about MR, AR, LMR, and LAR? If you get to know about these terms, you will be able to have a good understanding of k-pop idols' live performance." MR(Music Recorded) Basically, MR means instrumental accompaniment. Have you been to karaoke? MR is like karaoke music which doesn’t contain the sound of singer’s voice. However, there is no k-pop idol who uses such a clear MR, while all the k-pop idols’ MR contains sounds of their voices. Before performing their songs on k-pop chart shows, k-pop idols should make their MR, and the way how they make MR is to decrease the sound volume of their voices in original music, while keeping the sound volume of instrumental accompaniment as it is. So, to k-pop idols, singing to MR doesn’t j...
