In 2015, a head to head showdown between the most popular k-pop boy groups set the k-pop world on fire. BIGBANG released its new songs “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” on June 2, while EXO released “LOVE ME RIGHT” just 24 hours later.
The battle between BIGBANG and EXO was a matter of pride of the two biggest k-pop agencies, YG Entertainment and SM Entertainment, and the two agencies provided full support to the top class boy groups. By the way, their thoughts about the battle were a little bit different. Let's see what YG and SM were thinking about the head to head showdown between BIGBANG and EXO.
The release of “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” was a part of BIGBANG's special comeback project. BIGBANG released “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” on May 1, and the group was scheduled to release single albums every month of the year, which means the release of “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” was an already planned event. BIGBANG and YG were dreaming of making 2015 the year of themselves.
However, EXO's sudden comeback was beyond their expectations. Do you remember that 2NE1 released its new album right after Girls' Generation made a comeback in 2014? 2NE1 and YG took advantage from the strategy, making SM and Girls' Generation so embarrassed at that time. But in 2015, Yang Hyun Suk got what he deserved. When SM announced that EXO will release its new song on June 3, YG was embarrassed because EXO was nothing to sneeze. Before the head to head showdown between BIGBANG and EXO, YG clamed BIGBANG’s superiority over EXO by emphasizing that BIGBANG is the group who shows better live performance. YG never wanted to lose the battle.
A battle between BIGBANG and EXO was SM's revenge for YG because SM got a wound when 2NE1 released its album around the same time as Girls' Generation in 2014. So, before EXO released “LOVE ME RIGHT,” SM considered everything carefully and derived a conclusion that the head to head showdown between BIGBANG and EXO will bring benefits.
First, BIGBANG debuted in 2006 and EXO debuted in 2012, which means EXO has nothing to lose even if the group loses a battle with its senior k-pop group. Korea still has a Confucian system of seniority, and it sometimes taken for granted that juniors lose their competition against seniors.
Second, between the two groups, who do you think will have better chance to win No.1 trophies on various music chart shows? Yeah, it's EXO because EXO has numerous enthusiastic fans who can vote for them, while BIGBANG’s fans are older than EXO’s and they usually are not very active in voting for BIGBANG. In addition, EXO has a high record of album sales thanks to the enthusiastic fans. So, that was what SM was thinking about the battle. SM wanted to show that EXO can beat BIGBANG to win No.1 trophies of k-pop chart shows.

Have you ever been curious about k-pop idols' microphones? Unless you are a professional, it’s difficult to know the details about the microphones. However, there’s a very simple way to make a guess at what kind of microphone your favorite idol star uses. Well, the way is to classify the microphones by their colors. Colors of microphones do not always mean everything, but like I said, you can at least make a guess at what kind of microphones those are. Flesh-Colored Microphone You might see the flesh-colored microphones frequently in various k-pop chart shows. Those are the basic microphones offered by the broadcasting company. People in the k-pop world usually call it "Band-Aid." The microphone is cheap, and it doesn't perform well. However, it doesn't matter because not a few incompetent idols depend on their AR and just pretend to sing live. Black Microphone The black microphone is not offered by the broadcasting company. If an idol group's...
"Do k-pop idols really sing live? It's not an easy question to answer because the answer to the question could be both yes and no. Well, I want to talk about details about k-pop idols' live performance on the stage. Have you heard about MR, AR, LMR, and LAR? If you get to know about these terms, you will be able to have a good understanding of k-pop idols' live performance." MR(Music Recorded) Basically, MR means instrumental accompaniment. Have you been to karaoke? MR is like karaoke music which doesn’t contain the sound of singer’s voice. However, there is no k-pop idol who uses such a clear MR, while all the k-pop idols’ MR contains sounds of their voices. Before performing their songs on k-pop chart shows, k-pop idols should make their MR, and the way how they make MR is to decrease the sound volume of their voices in original music, while keeping the sound volume of instrumental accompaniment as it is. So, to k-pop idols, singing to MR doesn’t j...

1988–2009: Early life and debut G-Dragon began his career at age five as part of the group Little Roo Ra. After releasing a Christmas album, the group's contract was terminated by their record company, which came as a shock to G-Dragon. After then, he was scouted by SM Entertainment while on a ski trip with his family. He was a trainee under the record label for five years, specializing in dance before he left, unclear about what he wanted to do. In third grade, G-Dragon was introduced to the American rap group Wu-Tang Clan by a friend. Inspired by their music, he developed an interest in rapping and began taking classes. Under People Crew's tutelage, he participated in the release of the Korean hip-hop album Flex in 2001, becoming the youngest Korean rapper at just 13 years old. Although he wrote his own lyrics, he admitted that his English was weak and the story behind the lyrics was just another typical "I'm young, but I'm the best." Additionall...
