Kpop Album Review: Girl's Day Takes Advantage of Proper Sexuality

Girl's Day made a comeback with its summer special album. After being released, the title track 'Darling' took over various online music charts, proving that the group is now one of the hottest Kpop girl groups.

Girl's Day debuted in 2010, but unlike other popular girl groups who debuted the same year, the group had walked a hard road on the way to success.

Sistar, the girl group comprised of Hyolyn, Bora, Dasom and Soyou, debuted in 2010 and has gained great popularity with its hits such as 'Push Push', 'Loving you' and 'Give it to me', while Miss A has received attention from people because of its distinguishing member Suzy. However, Girl's Day had to spend about 2 years as an unknown, and in 2013, the group finally began to make a name for itself as one of the promising Kpop girl groups by releasing its hit 'Expect'. And in early 2014, the group made a big hit with its new song 'Something', taking rank with Sistar and Miss A.

After the big hit of 'Something', people's interest was on Girl's Day's next song. Since its debut, Girl's Day has tried to appeal to the public with its cute and lovely charm again and again, but actually, the group's hits 'Expect' and 'Something' were very sexy songs and it looked meaningless for the Girl's Day members to try to show off their cute and lovely charm on stage. So, there were two choices for Girl's Day. To return to cute and lovely concept or to maximize its sexy charm.

'Darling' is Kpop girl group's typical summer song. It has upbeat rhythm and the girls dance to the lively music. The brass session in the song is quite impressive.

When you listen to the music for the first time, it looks that Girls' Day decided to return to cute and lovely concept. However, that is not so.

In the music video of 'Darling', the camera repeatedly shows hot bodies of the Girl's Day members who are wearing hot pants and bikinis. The video also includes the scene in which the members wash the car, showing off their gorgeous figure.

However, Girl's Day does not try to highlight its sexuality as the most important point of the song. 'Darling' just follows the lively atmosphere of typical summer song, while the elements for sexuality are inserted at every strategic point. It really stimulates male fans' minds.

As you know, there are so many Kpop girl groups who release their sexy songs in summer, while some of them are embroiled in controversy due to their songs' nudity. However, unlike other girl groups, Girl's Day succeeded in reflecting sexuality in its song quite smartly. Girl's Day walks a fine line between sexy and cute. It is very strategic.

Actually, Girl's Day couldn't show any musical growth through its new song 'Darling'. But, Girl's Day certainly proved that the group deserves to be loved by so many fans. The album absolutely shows Kpop girl group's best way to satisfy its fans' fantasy.
