MBLAQ's Lee Joon Shows the Courage of his Convictions

Cool, pretty, splendid... These are the words that are suitable for Kpop idol stars. The stars show splendid performance on stage, and even off stage, they try to keep graceful and beautiful figure.

Some of the Kpop agencies advise the idols not to talk much and laugh loud because such actions can do harm the idols' images. The same goes for idols' drama and movie appearance. Most of the idols want to avoid playing a role that can harm their images. As celebrities, they need to be cool, pretty and splendid in the dramas and movies too.

However, there is a idol star who took a different path. It's MBLAQ's Lee Joon.

Of course, as a member of the boy group, he is cool and charismatic on stage. But as an actor, he is reinventing himself. It seems that he has the courage of his convictions.

In his movie 'Rough play', Lee Joon put on a very erotic bed-scene. It is exceptional for young idol stars to challenge to filming such a erotic scene. 'Rough play' is a movie about a low-grade actor who rises to top stardom overnight. Lee Joon was praised for his abilities to express various emotions of the role, and became one of the most noteworthy young actor in the movie world.

And in his drama 'Gap Dong', Lee Joon plays a psychopathic barista. Have you ever matched the two words, 'Idol' and 'Psychopath'? Lee Joon is showing really impressive performance in the drama, oscillating between cheerfulness and guilefulness.

Lee Joon spoke thus.

"The character is not easy to play. But I think it's a new challenge for me. I do not refer to other actor's acting because it makes me imitate other people. I just read the drama script several times and try to imagine the scenes."

As you can see in the picture above, Lee Joon catches the eyes of the viewers by putting on a gruesome smile in the drama. The scene sums him up. He is a talented actor who has his own world.

Kang Hee Joon, a producer of CJ E&M, stated, "When filming the scene, Lee Joon showed exceptional power of concentration. He is very passionate about what he is doing and always asks his senior actors for advice."

Actually, the aspect of idol stars's acting activities is recently changing. Secret's Han Sun Hwa played a gold-digger in 'God's gift - 14 days', while B1A4's Baro played a feeble-minded character in the same drama. Well, those are not the characters that are cool, pretty and splendid.

The reason for the change of idol star's role in drama stems from the idols' change of attitude. Idols used to appear in dramas just because of their curiosity about new fields, but now they started to have serious and honest attitude toward acting.
