[Interview] SHINee's Taemin says he's not a perfect singer but wants to have a good influence on the k-pop industry
Q. How does it feel like to hold your first ever solo concert in Korea "TAEMIN 1st SOLO CONCERT OFF-SICK <on track>"?
Taemin: Well, I've been really busy preparing for the concert. It's totally different from when I took part in SHINee's concert. When I was with the other members, I was more relaxed because I could rely on them. However, I'm a little bit nervous now because I have to do all the things by myself. I think it's important to have good pacing in order to successfully finish my solo concert.
Q. What did the SHINee members say about your solo concert?
Taemin: Jonghyun came to watch the concert yesterday. And Minho will come today. I felt great because Jonghyun said the concert was amazing.
Q. You made a comeback after a 20-month hiatus. How have you been?
Taemin: Time sure flies. But I tried not to screw the pooch. I've poured myself into my preparations for my new album.
Q. You will release your new song "MOVE" on October 16. Tell me about the song.
Taemin: It's a sexy song, but I wanted to express it with restrain. That's why tried to condense my energy rather than emit it. I want to show my mature charm through the song.
Q. Give me a hint about your new dance performance.
Taemin: I'll show sexy dance performance with female dancers. I wanted to catch people's eyes with small movements.
Q. You're currently filming KBS' new audition program "The Unit" as a mentor of various k-pop singers. What is it like filming the program?
Taemin: I'm not a perfect singer, and I can't say I'm better than them, of course. I don't think I'm qualified to judge someone. However, I'm trying to advise them with total sincerity. And by doing it, I think I can have a chance to nourish myself.
Q. It seems you have become more confident and relaxed than before.
Taemin: It may be because of my experiences. But I always try to be humble. I just hope many people will really like my new album because I've worked so hard on the album for a year and 8 months.
Q. What is your goal as a singer?
Taemin: I think there still are some people who don't know me, so I want to let them know who I am. And I want to become a singer who can have a good influence on the k-pop industry. I feel really great when somebody says I'm his mentor or role model, and I'll try my best not to disappoint people who like me. And of course, I'll always try to be humble.
