Do you like Mnet's hip hop survival program 'Show Me The Money'(SMTM)? As you know, many YG artists appear on the program. Epik High's Tablo and Jinusean will appear on 'Show Me The Money 4' as a judge, while Winner's Song Mino will appear on the program as a contestant. iKON's Bobby and B.I, who didn't debut officially yet, appeared on 'Show Me The Money 3' and succeeded in capturing people's heart by showing off their outstanding talents.
Do you think there is nothing intrinsically wrong with the YG artists' appearance on the program because YG is the biggest hip hop label in Korea and the program is about hip hop? Yes, but there is a story behind it.
Here are famous hip hop labels in Korea. Of course, YG is the biggest, and the others are Brandnew(Verbal Jint and San E), Illionaire(Dok2 and The Quiett), AOMG(Jay Park and Simon D), Amoeba Culture(Dynamic Duo), etc. Isn't it weird that Dynamic Duo's Gaeko and Choiza, who are regarded as the representative rappers in Korean hip hop scene didn't take part in SMTM? Before the broadcast of SMTM3, the production crew asked Dynamic Duo to appear on the program as a judge. However, they rejected it. Do you know? They didn't want to serve as YG's sidekick. SMTM3 was focused on showing Bobby and B.I's performance, and Dynamic Duo thought it was not a real hip hop survival. I'm not saying Bobby and B.I had poor rap skills. They were competent enough to contest with other talented rappers. But it is undeniable that the two idols are the largest beneficiary of the program, while everything worked out as YG planned. And isn't it interesting that Choiza is dating f(x)'s Sulli, while Gaeko is giving support to SM, the biggest rival of YG, by being featured as a rapper in BoA's song and taking part in writing EXO's song?
