The death of 'Baby Kara' Sojin and kpop trainees' severe depressions
You might watch the news that DSP media's trainee Sojin passed away. The 23-year-old trainee had been found dead in a garden at an apartment complex in Daejeon on February 24, 2015. She jumped off the 10th floor of the apartment, and she was rushed to the hospital as soon as she was found, but she did not make it.
Sojin had been DSP media's trainee for 5 years, while she appeared on MBC Music's “KARA Project - KARA The Beginning” in 2014 as a “Baby Kara.” However, she couldn't become Kara's new member and returned to her hometown, Daejeon, after terminating her contract with her agency.
What do you feel when you see k-pop trainees? I think some of you dream of being k-pop trainees. Do they look happy? You may think so because they are doing what they want and they look so happy when they sing and dance. However, most of the trainees are living a hard life. There is a keen competition among the trainees, while they can be kicked out of their agency if they fall behind in the competition. Becoming a trainee never guarantees success as a professional singer, and that’s why not a few trainees suffer from severe depressions because of anxiety about uncertain future. Sojin was severely depressed before she committed suicide too.
