Jang Hyun Seung is Running out of Time

On April 19, Cube Entertainment officially announced that Beast's Jang Hyun Seung decided to leave the team. According to the agency, Jang Hyun Seung will concentrate on his music work as a solo artist, while Beast will be active as a five-member group.

Well, this might not be a surprising news for the Beast fans. Jang Hyun Seung has already been embroiled in controversy a few times due to his ill manners toward his fans, and there has been a rumor that he's going to leave Beast after all.

As you may know, Cube Entertainment announced that Jang Hyun Seung broke up with the other Beast members because of personality difference. It's partially true. Jang Hyun Seung is a little bit shy of strangers and didn't want to actively participate in various promotional events of Beast, while the other members are very bright and cheerful. It has been a long time since the members had a disagreement about their activities. In this situation, it seems that Jang Hyun Seung was not happy at all as a member of Beast.

And another reason why he left Beast is that he was not motivated for Beast's activity. He gained popularity through Trouble Maker's activities, but he couldn't stand out among the Beast members. Yong Jun Hyung is a talented singer songwriter, and Yoon Dujun and Lee Gikwang have been active as actors, while Yang Yoseob is considered as one of the most competent idol vocalist in kpop world. Son Dongwoon had chances to appeal to the the public through various entertainment programs. Jang Hyun Seung, who felt doubts about his life as a member of Beast was quite different from the other members, and they couldn't resolve their differences after all.(I don't want to defend Jang Hyun Seung though. It's true that he didn't do his best as a professional singer and caused the Beast members problems)

Of course, Cube Entertainment is partly responsible for Jang Hyun Seung's withdrawal from Beast too. The agency tried to persuade him, but it was too late. It's true that the agency is going downhill, and it can't control Beast, one of the most popular kpop idol groups any more.

By the way, do you think Jang Hyun Seung will be able to win a success as a solo artist? To tell the conclusion first, he has a bare chance.

It's a conventional wisdom in the world of kpop that idols should not leave their groups if they want to succeed. Do you think Jang Hyun Seung is very competent as a solo singer? Is he as competent as G-Dragon, Taeyang, or Taemin? I don't think so. He could become popular because he was a member of Beast.

A bigger problem is that he is running out of time. His contract with Cube Entertainment will end in November. Till then, he should show something as a solo artist. Nobody can be sure about the renewal of his contract, and if he separates form Cube Entertainment, he will not be able to benefit from name value of the agency and Beast any more. And if he can't prove his competitiveness as a solo singer for the rest of the period of the contract, no kpop agencies will step forward to make a contract with him after he leaves Cube Entertainment.

Besides, Jang Hyun Seung has to join the army in 2018, at the latest. Before joining the army, he has to pave the way for becoming a competent solo artist if he hopes to be active as a popular singer even after his discharge from the army. 21 months is not a short period. People will forget about him if he can't have an impact on the public before his enlistment. Well, there's not a lot of time. Jang Hyun Seung's fate as an entertainer will be decided within 7 months.
