Stories behind Yang Hyun Suk's attendance at BLACKPINK's debut showcase in Japan


BLACKPINK is going to make an official debut in Japan soon. BLACKPINK will hold "BLACKPINK PREMIUM DEBUT SHOWCASE" at Budokan in Tokyo on July 20, while it is unusual for a foreign rookie group to hold its debut showcase at Budokan, which is an iconic place in the country. BLACKPINK's Japanese debut album will be released on August 9.

A notable thing is that Yang Hyun Suk, the CEO of YG Entertainment will attend BLACKPINK's debut showcase. He usually doesn't expose himself when YG artists hold various events such as concert, fan meeting and showcase. However, this time, he flew to Japan to support BLACKPINK.


Basically, it is because Yang Hyun Suk has much expectations for BLACKPINK. You know, BLACKPINK is creating a sensation in the world of k-pop. After making a very successful debut with "Whistle" and "Boombayah" in August 2016, the girl group's popularity has been growing sharply with "Playing with fire", "Stay" and "As if it's your last" in three consecutive hits. In addition, the music video of "As if it's your last" reached over 70 million views in 25 days, which is a new record for a k-pop idol group.


So, Yang Hyun Suk is now expecting BLACKPINK to achieve huge success in Japan too, while another reason why he is giving full support to the girl group is because TWICE, who debuted in Japan on June 28 has already achieved huge success and there is sense of rivalry between YG and JYP.

Actually, Yang Hyun Suk is now confident of BLACKPINK's success in the country for some reasons. First, the talented and attractive girl group received huge attention from Japanese fans even before its official debut in the country. Second, BLACKPINK is a girl group who is totally different from TWICE, which means they do not need to share the same range of Japanese fans. Third, after TWICE made a very successful debut, k-pop idols began to receive great attention from Japanese fans again, and of course, BLACKPINK is one of them.


But that's not all. There is another story behind Yang Hyun Suk's attendance at BLACKPINK's debut showcase in Japan. Actually, he flew to Japan to support Sechs Kies too. The boy group released "THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY-Japan Edition" on July 19, while it's the 20th-year boy group's first ever Japanese album. There are many young idol groups who debut in Japan these days, but it is very unusual for a 20th-year boy group to make a debut in the country. So, before attending BLACKPINK's debut showcase, Yang Hyun Suk met people in the Japanese music industry and asked for their support.
