A story behind SM's workshop (Reason why SM artists went to Jeju Island)


SM Entertainment is having its workshop in Jeju Island, while about 900 employees of the company attended the workshop. And a variety of famous SM artists including EXO, Girls' Generation and TVXQ's Yunho also went to Jeju Island to take part in the workshop.

By the way, it's notable that SM Entertainment is having its workshop in Korea. You know, the biggest k-pop agency held its workshop last year too, but it was held in Hawaii. Well, actually, there's a story behind it.


Jeju island is a major tourist destination for local and international visitors. Especially, a lot of Chinese tourists came to the island. However, The number of Chinese tourists visiting the island has dropped sharply due to ongoing diplomatic tension following Korea’s decision to host United States’ Terminal High Altitude Area Defense(THAAD) system. Since last March, the Chinese government has imposed a travel ban on Chinese tour groups going to Korea as part of an economic retaliation against Korea’s decision.

So, in this situation, Jeju island felt the full impact of the crisis and asked SM Entertainment to hold its workshop in the island because SM has many popular idol stars and they could attract overseas visitors. Lee Soo Man, who knew about all the situation and wanted to help Jeju island decided to hold the workshop in the island.


At Jeju island, Kim Min Jong, Yunho and Yoona met Jeju governor Won Hee Ryong and rode in electricity-powered vehicles. Actually, it was a promotional event for Jeju island and the three popular stars attended the event to help the island even though it was not a profitable thing at all. Reason why they rode in electricity-powered vehicles is because Jeju island wanted to let the world know that the island has a clean and natural environment.


Well, there could be some employees of SM Entertainment who wanted to go abroad, but I think SM made the right decision. The SM artists are doing the right thing as the most popular and influential idol stars, and I hope Jeju island's economy will show signs of recovery soon.

What Dynamic Duo Achieved Other Than The Scandal with Sulli

Dynamic Duo released its new album. The Korean hip hop duo that consists of Choiza and Gaeko is regarded as the representative hip hop artist in Korea, while the two met in the 6th grade of elementary school and have a long standing history of being friends.
