Can PRISTIN become female SEVENTEEN?

PRISTIN, a rookie girl group of Pledis Entertainment is going to make a debut. The 10-member girl group's first mini album will be released on March 21, while the title track of the album will be "WEE WOO." As PRISTIN is comprised of 10 pretty girls and Lim Nayoung and Zhou Jieqiong, who have gained popularity as members of I.O.I are also members of the girl group, the team is now receiving great attention from k-pop fans.

By the way, it is notable that all the PRISTIN members took part in writing songs to be included in their debut album. There are many male idols who take part in writing their songs, but female idols are relatively not active as songwriters and what they usually do is just do something their agencies want.

Actually, Pledis is now expecting PRISTIN to become "female SEVENTEEN." Well, the 13-member boy group made a successful debut in 2015 and became one of the hottest k-pop idol groups right away. The group is now very popular not only among Korean teenage girls but also among foreign fans, while it is notable that the group had a successful concert tour in Japan in early 2017 even though it has been only 2 years since its debut.

And as I mentioned before, SEVENTEEN’s big success is mainly because of the members’ great creative power. SEVENTEEN members play the leading role in producing their albums, and they design their choreography too. Their music and performance are so fresh and energetic, and they absolutely differentiated themselves from the other k-pop idols.

So, Pledis is trying to apply such a formula for success to PRISTIN, and that's why the agency made the PRISTIN members take part in writing their songs. Of course, participating in writing songs doesn't guarantee the success of their album because what is important is their songwriting ability and creative power, not a fact that they took part in writing their songs. If the 10 girls are as talented as the SEVENTEEN members are, yeah, they'll be able to achieve a success just like SEVENTEEN did. However, if they're not, they will not be able to get a chance to become "female SEVENTEEN" or "the next SEVENTEEN."

Well, what do you think? Do you think PRISTIN will be able to become as successful as SEVENTEEN? Let's see whether the pretty girls appeal to k-pop fans.
